How to be Popular – Personal Development

Many questions for your personal development…

Sometimes, it’s best to ask yourself why you want to utilize personal development techniques to become popular in the first place. Why do you want to become popular? Is there someone or something in particular that you want to impress? If you can ask yourself the hard questions (and answer them honestly) about what you want and why, then you are ready for your next step.

Try mind mapping a personal mission statement to help you design and achieve your ideal life. When you are uncertain where your life is heading, or when you doubt your own abilities, this mission statement will remind you: who you are, what you are determined to achieve, and what you have already accomplished to date.  See the mind map I created to go with this article.

By building yourself a mission statement, you will then have your own personal plan to keep you on track and answerable to yourself. It’s a significant personal compass, and one that you can carry with you at all times.

Be Comfortable and Confident

One of the first things to remember is that confident body language can often help you be more at ease with yourself and who you are. Like ducks to water, people will flock to you when you exude confidence. Remember, the happier you are with yourself, the happier others will be with you too.

Your Style and Look

Just as Picasso, Da Vinci, and Rembrandt crafted and molded masterpieces that incorporated themselves, so must your personal image be carved, painted, shaded, and shaped the best way that represents you. Contrary to what most people would believe, constantly switching up the style of your appearance seems rather desperate for popularity, rather than cemented in confidence of one’s self. For example, a nice short hair cut could do wonders for an individual to bring out their eyes, or smile. These enhancements to your facial appearance give you not only a unique style, but a look that best represents you.

Dress with Pride – Clean and Crisp. So, dress like an apple

I remember my elders telling me that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. I wondered to my self several years later, if we’ve discovered this revolutionary information, why don’t we utilize it? Why do we refuse to put it into action? These questions can only be answered by poor choices in habit. The healthier we feel, the more confident we feel. If you feel great, chances are you will look great too. And if you look healthy, people will most likely be attracted to you. Washing your face twice daily with a soap that fits your skin type will help even better. Should I mention the basics like, wash your hair, use a deodorant, and cleaning your teeth will aid in your quest for popularity? Guess I just did that.

Be Passionate

Throughout the years, America, and many other countries, has created movies that dazzle us and shoots us toward some form of personal development. They wrap us in a choke hold of suspense, or they drown us in admiration for a fictional character’s plights, victories, and lessons learned. One common characteristic each hero in these movies has, is passion. Their passion is the reason our breaths become baited with anticipation of their triumph. These story bound people have what most viewers feel they lack.

Now, if we focus on the real life characters with passion we see why Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, George Lucas, Michael Jackson, Truman Capote, Fred Astaire, and Princess Diana were so popular. In regards to their passion for what they achieved, they astounded many, and bewildered the rest. Do something you love, but have been too afraid to try. With a great spirit and strong passion to share, the more others will want to share with you.

Hesitate To Shine No More

Your gifts and talents should not be hidden from the world. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas with others. By showing all facets of who you are, your knowledge, and your capacity to learn what you didn’t know, will cause people to forge relationships with you, almost instantly! The more people you expose this talent to, the more a ripple effect of popularity and charm with shine over you. Your name will spread faster. But beware of the vanity, arrogant, boastful side effects that infect most individuals who catch the popularity bug. Be humble, and open to new ideas, new people, and new ways to express your thoughts creatively.

Talk It Up

Make sure to keep talking. You certainly don’t want to become a chatter box that doesn’t know how to be quiet. This should be knowlegeable and reassuring talk. When you speak, try to make a point, or discover information. After all, that is what communication is all about.

Be adventurous, talk to somebody new each day. After you’ve mastered that for a week, then try talking to two others unknown to you daily. The next week, try to talk to three, etc. Build this gradual climax towards talking more freely, understanding, and popularly chatting with everyone.

Do Something New

Try to venture out into the unknown and familiarize yourself with it. It is often too easy to sit back in our comfort zone. Move out of your comfort zone and trying something new every once in a while is a great way to gain popularity.

Bear in mind that you should only participate if you really want to, not because you only want the attention for it. Make sure that when you do try something new, it’s because you have an interest in trying it out. It’s a hold your breath underwater as long as you can, but make sure you can swim first kind of thing.

Remember to be humble and grateful. These things could be attending a writing class, joining a short term business class, enjoying the theater arts, or celebrating with a wonderful dinner, glass of wine, and chat by the fireplace. Make sure it’s around people who enjoy doing the things you haven’t tried, and build a bond with them (even if you’ll never, say, attend an Opera again). This will really help in skyrocketing your popularity.

Go With the Flow

Do you remember when you where younger and you discovered a talent you had, one that was magically given to you in the blink of an eye, and you happened to master within two to five minutes? But do you remember talking the talent to someone, a teacher, mom, dad, sibling, or grandparent, and having your talent completely flop and not work. “I did it so many times before,” you’d muffle through embarrassed eyes. Well, you shouldn’t have been embarrassed, because we all have gone through this. My talent show was ruined because I overthought it. We concentrate so hard on getting it right and not messing up that we end up doing just that.

Just like in the analogy used in the previous paragraph, so must you relate it to the world of popularity? The key to being popular is actually not trying to fit in with everyone, but being yourself, while at the same time embracing new ideas, cultures, races, styles, and entertainment. Try anything once, so long as it is within your boundaries, and if you don’t like it – don ‘t do it again, but at least you tried. The more you are exposed to, the more you understand or have empathy for. The people you meet, and the friends that you make along your way to social stardom will send your spirit soaring through the sky, a shinning star, bright with status, regard, and esteem.

Gain Personal Growth with Communication

We’ve all found it rather difficult to develop personal growth in communicating our thoughts or feelings to someone else. Forming all the emotions and thoughts that are jumbled in our heads to a sentence or two can be challenging. However, we must interact with one another, because it’s what makes this large world go ’round. Instead of becoming frustrated, and assuming that the world just doesn’t understand us, we should first try to understand others. You can gain personal growth in communication with others, and here are but a few ways to help you achieve this:

Relax

Don’t become so wrapped up in how something should be or what would make it better. When you communicate with someone, and you develop preconceived notions on how they should be, you turn them off. Try not to be so firm in your beliefs before you completely hear what the other has to say. Taking your time to understand someone, that is the trick. If you don’t have time for anyone else, why, praytell, should they have time for you?

Probe

Begin to ask questions when you communicate with someone. After all, people don’t naturally walk up to others and explain everything they feel, want, like, and have been through. When you ask someone who you’re communicating with questions, they feel as though you actually care, and they will start asking you questions. Probing questions are what makes conversations. For example, if a person says they like to eat cheesecake, a good question would be, “What kind?” Simple as it is, it is rather effective, and keeps the conversing on a consistent and non-invasive level.

Listen

A question that is often asked of people is, if they should wait to speak, or actually listen. Forming statements or questions in our heads, and focusing solely on them until the person we’re talking to takes a breath in speech is rude, and reckless. When you abandon a person by waiting to talk we show them that we weren’t very interested to begin with, and rather selfish in this right.

Speak… Honestly

Lies are often uttered to total strangers. These are only little white lies, but they are lies, just the same. When you meet anyone, or talk to existing friends or family, try to speak with honesty. The more honesty you show, the more personal development you can gain in building integrity. When you speak honestly, you don’t speak or do something opposite to what you feel. Try to apply this concept to every encounter that you may have.

Be the Host

Let’s say, for instance, you go to a party. It’s a small gathering, maybe no more than forty people, and you have to mingle. You can communicate very well by thinking of yourself as the host of the party. Now, don’t lie and say things such as, “I paid a lot of money for this event. Do you like it?” Try to stay in your own roll or flesh as partygoer, but be as inviting, friendly, and comfortable as a host should be. People will begin to flock to you, coming to you for your command of entertainment and conversation.

Balance Yourself

You can most definitely gain personal growth in communication once you simply treat people the same way that you would like to be treated. A warning to you: the more friendly and sociable you become, the more responsibility you hold. You must be aware of your words, and compare them to your actions. Your feelings must be expressed in a non-attacking manner. Build those relationships, and further develop personal growth in communication skills.

Anger Management Treatment And Advice

For whatever reason I would seemingly become confrontational and aggressive over the simplest of things. I would often struggle to comprehend why a person could be so nasty to me and would, I suppose, want to punish them in my own way. I wanted to teach them a lesson which would help them to mend their ways. The only way I could think of responding was by shouting at them, threatening them or by using violence against them.

Now before I continue I would like to make it clear that I do not work within the “anger management industry”; I personally am involved with various projects to do with offering Vodafone Voucher Codes; offering people advice regarding jobs in foster care and I also sell cheap holidays.

I will give you an example of a situation where a person basically cheated me out of a large sum of money. I was looking at turning my front garden into a driveway and I had a number of people around to the house, all of which gave me a quote for the work.

I decided to accept a quote from John who seemed a very nice and trustworthy man. Him and his team spent a couple of days laying the drive during which I was keeping them well supplied with foods and drinks, we all got on very well.

He advised me not to park my car on the new drive for a few days to let it settle and become hardened. I waited a week and then drove my car onto the new driveway. To my horror the driveway dipped and I later found out from a friend that they had not put any hardcore (I think that is what it is called) down.

I tried to contact John but he did not answer his phone, I went round to see him and he would not answer his door. I became more and more angry and started to plan my revenge.

Walking away

I had many options through the courts which I could and did pursue. John was fully prepared to accept responsibilty however he did not have the funds to pay back the cash.

I have now decided to let nature take its course and to walk away. This is not just from the situation above but from any similar event.

When me wife annoys me, I will just walk away to compose myself. Another great tip that a person once gave me which is very simple but works, is to count to ten when you start to feel angry. Being angry, like the way I always used to be, is not good for my health and causes me to become stressed, to become depressed and to lose sleep.

I now see people as apples in a bucket. Three out of these ten apples will be “bad apples”. Instead of feeling angry at the rotten apples, I feel sorry for them.

I firmly believe in God and have now decided that I do not need to seek any form of revenge as he will be judge and jury on judgement day. At this stage these people will have nowhere to hide.

Living life this way is far easier for me and I only wish I had had this approach and form of anger management technique, years ago.

Stop Procrastinating And Start Achieving Goals

People who equate procrastination with laziness do not have an adequate understanding of the problem and the psychology that lies behind it. However, even those people who understand that procrastination may well be a manifestation of a deeper problem may still consider that the perpetrator is procrastinating about seeking help.

Some of those with a tendency to procrastinate may in fact be suffering from depression or even attention deficit disorder which can both be underlying causes of procrastination. Even though procrastination is considered a behavior disorder, by treating other diagnosed issues it may be possible to offer a method to stop the procrastination at the same time. It is often recommended that those people who are chronic procrastinators see a therapist or a mental health professional to determine if there are other treatable issues causing them to consistently put things off.

Therapy can a useful process for people to change behavioral patterns such as phobias and, for example, a fear of flying. These types of upsets in a person’s psychological balance cannot always be treated with medication, but a therapist can offer a better understanding of why they display the particular behavior. This type of treatment can usually help a person to stop procrastination~change the procrastination habit~stop procrastinating if it is required.

Continuing With Procrastination Can Lead To Addictions

People who continually put off doing certain tasks, often focus their attention on other, sometimes solo projects. It is possible that someone who refuses to stop their procrastination will end up addicted to the computer, for example, if that is where they turn to take their focus away from whatever else they should be doing. Taking refuge behind a computer screen offers self-justification for putting off doing something, but an addiction to computer gaming or the internet may be a signal that procrastination help is required.

Attention deficit disorder, while frequently associated with children, has recently become a more common diagnosis for adults who cannot remained focussed on one thing for long periods. When this leads to procrastination seeking treatment for attention deficit disorder can also lead to stopping the procrastination.

In the majority of cases procrastination is displayed as an avoidance behavior during which the individual will perform other tasks unrelated to the project they are ignoring. Learning new behaviors and finding out what draws their focus away from their planned project, often means a cure for procrastination can be found.

A major step towards stopping procrastination is starting to set smart goals. Understanding the concept of time is often the first step towards achieving goals and can create a breakthrough in many areas of our lives.
